Padmaavat, released on December 1st last year, is one of the most controversial films ever made. Controversy wages around the film after triggering a wave of violent protests across India. One problem with this film is that it became limited to just one country only- India. Majority of countries have not seen or even heard about this film, so it's hard to know if the protest was justified or not. This article will analyze how Padmaavat has impacted India and where it could have gone from here if it was released in different countries around the world. India's film industry is one of the biggest and most influential industries in the world. Bollywood alone grossed $4.6 billion (or 3.7 crore) in 2017 and has hundreds of millions of viewers around the world, with a growing fan base in Iran, Saudi Arabia and other countries which has caused some politicians to call for a boycott of Hindi films as a sign of protest. This is what happened when Padmaavat released as it triggered protests across India with extremist groups such as Shri Rajput Karni Sena intimidating those watching or working on Padmaavat . Though it released after some controversial changes which included changing the title from Padmavati to Padmaavat , its song lyrics, etc. The film was also banned in Gujarat after the protests and some theatres had to be shut down (and their equipment was burned). Padmaavat is based on the court of Alauddin Khilji's 11th century invasion of Chittor. Padmavati who was a Rajput queen is being portrayed as being a dreamer and a lover, which according to the Rajputs, is a bad trait to possess for a queen. Rajput Karni Sena claimed this was insulting to the Rajputs. Bollywood is a symbol of modernity and westernization in India, and this film does represent it to a certain extent, but at the same time this film has also stirred up some nostalgia and respect for women and old traditions in India. Padmaavat was filmed in various locations such as Kumbhalgarh in Rajasthan, Ranakpur in Gujarat, Gugamal National Park in Madhya Pradesh, Pune in Maharashtra and Jodhpur & Jaisalmer across Rajasthan. The film's shooting was completed in May 2017. The film's last song was shot across various locations in Rajasthan including Mandawa, Khetri Mahal, Chomu, Jhunjhunu and Jaipur. Padmaavat was originally scheduled to release on November 17th 2017 but due to the protest against the film, its release got postponed many times. Ranveer Singh who plays Alauddin Khilji is one of the most popular stars in India with a huge fan following of nearly 14 million people on Instagram. He did not use social media for promoting this film due to security reasons as he had received death threats from extremist groups. cfa1e77820
