In Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City, players control a member of U.S. Spec Ops team tasked with capturing a terrorist group named The Hares. Players can participate in a co-op multiplayer mode with up to four players or engage in single-player missions where they battle against the zombies and hostile humans alone. Unlike other Resident Evil games, there are no puzzles to solve and no weapons from later installments available from the start. In addition, player characters will die if they are bitten by zombies or take too much damage from enemies. This was the first game in the series to be released on current-generation platforms, released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game was also ported to the Nintendo Wii. On May 8, 2012, the Wii version of "Operation Raccoon City" was shut down in North America and Europe, due to "insufficient sales". To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Resident Evil's release in 1996, Capcom decided to remake Operation Raccoon City for mobile devices. They announced this via an advertisement in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu on December 31, 2012. It was available worldwide for Android devices since January 2014. Upon release, "Operation Raccoon City" received mixed positive to negative reception. GameRankings and Metacritic gave it a 75% and 75 out of 100 for the Xbox 360 version; 50% and 52 out of 100 for the PlayStation 3; and 67% and 64 out of 100 for both PC versions. IGN scored the game 5 out of 10, praising the game's interesting premise, but stated that "the final product comes way short of delivering on its promise." GameSpot scored it 6.5 out of 10, saying "Regardless of your fondness for Resident Evil's brand history or your current disposition toward its present-day incarnation, Operation Raccoon City is far from essential. It may be an intriguing diversion for series veterans, but you'll probably find it more frustrating than fun." 1UP.com praised the game's mission structure, saying "It's a completely different type of mission design--it's one that you could play with friends in co-op mode, but it doesn't merit that option. On the other hand, I really liked how focused this game was on just shooting things and not much else. It reminded me of playing an old 2D shooter like Gradius at times." They also praised the graphics and sound effects in the game. However, they criticized the lack of online multiplayer support and repetitive gameplay elements. In 2013, it was awarded as "Worst Sequel" at the Video Game Awards. Note: In the Nintendo Wii version of "Operation Raccoon City", if a player is bitten by a zombie and does not heal at a defibrillator in time, they will fall on the ground and become an enemy zombie (without remaining character data). The player can cease to be an enemy zombie by getting back up and running into the end of chapter marker. cfa1e77820
