Sometimes, we come across a book that changes our world at a time when we need it most. It's the kind of book you can feel good about reading and sharing with others because of its life-changing qualities. Sometimes, it's also the type of book that inspires films and films inspire books. Kitab Jawahirul Hikmah is one such type of book for Muslims who may find themselves in difficult times and need guidance for their spiritual journey. Kitab Jawahirul Hikmah was written by Shihab al-Din Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman Al Suyuti (c1075–1149). He is known to have served in the court of the Fatimid Caliph Al-Mustansir. The words of the Prophet Muhammad from which the author of this book has formed his lessons are from the authentic hadith recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari. The content of this book is a compilation taken from the writings of the great Islamic scholars and philosophers beginning from the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) up to this date. An example of the author's approach is in his short essay on what he feels are "the essentials of religion" (ḥaqīqah al-dīn). That there are essential principles that must be followed is not disputed, but this book makes it clear that these ideas are not necessarily important because they are mentioned in the two surahs (chapters) dealing with clothing and what you should wear when entering or leaving your house. The author has divided the essentials of religion into ten points: patience, trust in God, knowledge about God, prayers, supplications (duā), fasting, pilgrimage, jihad (struggle), and perseverance. On the first point above, which is patience he says: "Patience includes acceptance without grumbling of all that happens to us; it requires complete resignation to Allah's decree concerning us; it also requires enduring all our trials with bravery and calm." On trust in God he says this is based on faith in Him and believing that whatever He does is good. He then goes on to mention four ways that you can gain knowledge about Allah. cfa1e77820
